A scrappy, cotton, machine-pieced, block-style quilt with sashing between the blocks. The use of solid pastel-colored fabrics lends visual coherency to a block pattern that bears a striking resemblance to the “patch pattern” overshot coverlet design. Filled with thick layer of polyester batting and quilted in shell design using red thread. This odd thread color choice suggests that the person who made the individual blocks may have been different from the person who put them together and quilted them. This would be consistent with scholar Laurel Horton’s assessment that the top likely dates to the 1950’s, whereas the backing to the 1970s.
